General Info
Biodiesel is a much cleaner alternative to fossil diesel. Biodiesel can be made from any vegetable oil or animal fat, including soybean oil, chicken fat, and waste cooking oil.
Key Characteristics of Biodiesel
- Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification
- Biodiesel has a cleansing effect that helps release engine deposits built up from previous petrol-diesel use
- Biodiesel causes less wear and tear on the engine, meaning less maintenance
- Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emission by 78% compared to regular diesel (U.S. EPA)
- Biodiesel usually is blended with regular petroleum-based diesel

At low blending levels, biodiesel has a virtually identical cold-flow characteristic as fossil diesel. |

Our biodiesel goes through a double polishing process – first polished, then treated for cold flow. As a result, our biodiesel easily exceeds the ASTM D 6751 standards for biodiesel. We have a well-equipped lab in our biodiesel plant, and test every batch to ensure compliance to industry standards.
Production & DISTRIBUTION
Greenlight’s first biodiesel facility is located in Princess Anne, Maryland. The facility is multi-feedstock with a capacity of 4 million gallons per year – expandable to 8 million gallons per year. That equates to over 10,000 to 20,000 gallons a day of clean, renewable fuel.
Greenlight Biofuels has a great partnership with Cato Gas & Oil. Cato owns the largest petroleum terminal on the Eastern Shore in Salisbury, MD, “the crossroads of the Delmarva.” Cato has dedicated a 120,000 gallon tank for biodiesel, and through Cato or other petroleum partners, blended biodiesel can be purchased “at the rack” in the form of B2, B5, B10 or B20. By purchasing high quality biodiesel that is injection blended at the rack, end-users can be confident that their trucks, buses, automobiles and heating equipment will run cleaner and just as reliably as with fossil diesel.
At Greenlight, we are proud of our contribution to economic development, a cleaner environment, and energy independence. In times of heightened tensions in the Middle East, we can confidently assert that Greenlight and our valued partners are making a valuable difference and are a part of the ongoing solution. Every gallon that we produce is one less gallon that we have to import.
Retail Biodiesel
Bottom line: we can save you up to 35 cents/gal on fuel costs.
Greenlight has a growing customer list that purchases our clean-burning biodiesel for use in their cars, trucks and buses. While everyone wants to do their part to ensure a cleaner environment, most people like to save some money while doing so. With Greenlight as your biodiesel supplier, you can do both. We will deliver it right to your door, at a price that is less expensive than your local diesel pump. We deliver product in standard heating oil tankers, and you will get a meter ticket with each sale. In order to keep our delivery costs to a minimum, we will be scheduling monthly or semi-monthly deliveries to our customers.
For 2011, we will sell delivered B99 (99% biodiesel) for 35 cents/gal under the average price of diesel as reported by the Energy Information Adminstration (Central Atlantic Region). This discounted price applies for orders over 250 gallons and delivered near route 50 from Salisbury, MD to Washington, DC, or near route 95 from the DC beltway to the Baltimore beltway. We may need to add an additional delivery charge for orders away from this route. Click the link here to see this week's reference price: http://www.eia.gov/oog/info/wohdp/diesel.asp.
Biodiesel will work well if you follow standard handling and use guidelines. We are currently running a 30% blend of biodiesel (B30) in our cooking oil collection vehicles, and have had great success with no related downtime. An exhaustive discussion of handling and use guidelines can be found here: http://www.nrel.gov/vehiclesandfuels/npbf/pdfs/43672.pdf. We can also work with you to come up with good storage solutions.

In addition to supplying our biodiesel plant with Used Cooking Oil, we also aggregate and sell UCO to a network of biofuel partners all over the East Coast. If you are a biofuel producer in need of feedstock, please send us a message at info@glbiofuels.com.
